On February 12th, the Brown University Club of San Diego welcomes novelist, screenwriter and playwright Ayad Akhtar for an artist’s reception at the world premiere of his play The Who and the What at La Jolla Playhouse.

At Brown, Mr. Akhtar concentrated in theatre. After college, he studied acting in Italy and earned his M.A. from Columbia University. Last spring, he won the 2013 Pulitzer Prize for Drama for his Disgraced, which New York Times critic Charles Isherwood said was “a continuously engaging, vitally engaged play” that “bristles with wit and intelligence.”

Earlier this month, Time Magazine cited Mr. Akhtar’s new play, The Who & the What, about a Muslim family in Atlanta, as one of the 10 Reasons for Theatre Lovers to Leave New York in 2014. After its world premier at La Jolla Playhouse, The Who & the What will be staged at Lincoln Center in New York City.
